District Personnel have been instructed to send any student feeling ill to the school nurse. This is the standard procedure already used in the district. Parents with students with fevers over 99 degrees will be contacted. The nurse will discuss individual situations with the parents or guardian regarding the situation of each child. If it is determined that a student is to be sent home, parents will be notified inmediately. Children with fever of over 100 degrees will be automatically sent home with recommendations. Recommendations will be made to parents to follow up with their own physician if the symptoms persist.
School personnel will also follow the preventive procedures identified in the attachments from the Center for Disease Control and local health department.
Due to the recent diagnosis of Swine Influenza in the United States and Mexico, we are providing you with some useful information on what this virus is and what measures can be taken to prevent it. The Arizona Department of Health Services is in contact with doctors, medical facilities and our local health partners to make sure they are aware of the symptoms, as well as when to do additional testing. Currently there are no reported cases in Arizona including Yuma County. The Gadsden School District is taking proper precautions and will notify our families of any new information and updates.
Please feel free to send your child with facial/surgical masks, but make note that our school will not privide students with any masks due to the fact that it is not a requirement by CDC.
We continue to work closely with local, state and federal officials on this very important issue. It is important to remain vigilant and work closely with your family doctors and Yuma County Health Department.
